My favourite family tradition for Halloween is taking a trip to The Patch MK to see the pumpkins. Last year Ivy was just about to turn 1 so wasn’t very active, but this year is a fully walking talking toddler so I was very excited to take her and let her roam around the pumpkins!
The Patch MK is one of my favourite days out, I love the Sunflowers every summer and the Pumpkins in the run-up to Halloween. For a cheap day out with the children, it’s always a big hit in our family, and there are always lots of things to keep them entertained.
So if you’re thinking about a visit to The Patch MK for pumpkins this year, then this is the guide for you!
Things To Do At The Patch MK
If you’ve not visited The Patch MK before you must visit. Not only is there a huge pumpkin patch, but there’s also food, photo opportunities, and fun for kids.
The Patch MK is only a short drive out of Milton Keynes – about 20 minutes from central MK, and even closer if you’re from Buckingham, Deanshanger, Stony Stratford or Wolverton.
Pick Your Own Pumpkins
Of course, the main attraction of The Patch MK is the pumpkins! This year there are over 80,000 pumpkins and squashes to choose from, with over 16 different varieties. You’ll find white pumpkins, striped pumpkins, big ones, little ones – all sorts!
This year the patch has been planted in a grid system (completely unheard of in Milton Keynes!) making it much easier to move around the pumpkins. There are wheelbarrows to borrow to carry around your pumpkins, and prices start from 50p – £1.50 for munchkins, and £2 for smaller pumpkins to £10 for larger ones.
Vintage Tractor
The signature vintage tractor is out again this year, with an added pumpkin theme! Great for a photo opportunity, and always popular with the little ones. Ivy was particularly a fan, and it took a while to convince her to come off and let someone else have a go…
Fun for Kids
There are loads of things around The Patch MK for kids again this year. There are barrel train rides, slides and a haybale maze.
Pumpkin House
The pumpkin house has made a return again this year – perfect for photos! Our 2-year-old loved running through the house and seeing all the pumpkins.
Devil Throne
New for this year at The Patch MK is the devil throne – a spooky-looking area for Halloween! It looks great for photographs, with lots of spooky props!
Photo Opportunities
There are so many photo opportunities at The Patch MK – and let’s be honest, most of us are there for the photo opportunities.
As well as the props listed above, inside the food marque, there are a couple of photo opportunities, and a few dotted around the pumpkin patches, as well as the huge ‘pumpkins’ sign in the field.
Food and Drink
This year The Patch Pantry is in an enclosed marquee, so if the weather isn’t great you can shelter away and warm up! They have the most incredible sausage rolls – the black pudding one is especially amazing, cakes, pumpkin gingerbread biscuits for little ones, hot drinks, cold drinks – and two of my favourites; pumpkin spiced lattes and mulled apple & cinnamon.

Good to Know
- The Patch MK is open at weekends from the 2nd of October, and every day from the 20th October until the 31st October
- You’ll need to book a ticket to visit, bookings are available in timeslots from 9.30 am – 4.30 pm – it’s recommended you stay for about 2 hours so things don’t get too busy!
- Keep in mind that this is in an open field – so it can get quite muddy! So best to come dressed appropriately. They plan to be open come rain or shine, however, if there is adverse weather they will close and refunds will be issued
- There are toilets, with running water and hand washing facilities as well as a disabled toilet on site
- Park as tightly as you can in the car park, to ensure that they can fit as many cars as possible on the hard-standing pitch
