I was invited to the press evening for 2:22 A Ghost Story, but all views are my own
I’m a fan of all things spooky, so I was thrilled that the acclaimed stage show, 2:22 A Ghost Story, made its comeback at Northampton’s Royal & Derngate.
2:22 A Ghost Story has had phenomenal success, including three years in the West End over seven seasons, twelve replica productions worldwide, and has been seen by over 1.1 million people in seventeen different countries across 5 continents. In 2023/24, 2:22 A Ghost Story went in its first successful UK tour, which was then followed by another hugely successful tour in the autumn of 2025. Now for 2026, the production is back on the road and has returned to Northampton.
If you aren’t familiar with 2:22 A Ghost Story, the story revolves around Jenny and her husband Sam, hosting a dinner party with their friends after recently moving into their new home. However, Jenny has an ulterior motive during the dinner party – she believes the house to be haunted, and begins to hear a presence, and feels it’s targeting her daughter.
With their guests, Lauren and Ben, round for dinner, Jenny wants them to stay until the usual time the ghost appears to get to the bottom of it all, at you guessed it, 2:22.
However, Sam isn’t convinced and is very skeptical about ghosts, transforming their civilised dinner party into a makeshift seance around the dining table.

The cast of 2:22 A Ghost Story includes James Bye as Sam, Natalie Casey as Lauren, Grant Kilburn as Ben, and Shvorne Marks as Jenny. Written by award-winning Danny Robins, 2:22 A Ghost Story promises an adrenaline-filled evening where secrets emerge and ghosts may or may not appear..
The story of 2:22 A Ghost Story goes much deeper than its background of a haunted house. If anything, it’s more about the relationship between Jenny and Sam, about their marriage, and how becoming parents has changed the dynamics of the household.
We will see Jenny doing her best to come up with ways to keep her daughter safe, while Sam criticises her approach, and doesn’t offer his support to his wife, instead finds himself in a heated debate about the existence of ghosts with guest Ben.
2:22 A Ghost Story is a wonderfully enjoyable play, with fantastic performances from all characters. I don’t want to give too much away about the storyline, but there is a huge plot twist that will leave you with your jaw on the floor.
This was my second time seeing this performance, and I enjoyed looking out for subtle clues and hints throughout the play to tease what twist was coming – some of which are very cleverly done.
I wouldn’t say that 2:22 A Ghost Story is scary enough to cause you nightmares, but it’s tense enough that you will be hanging off the edge of your seat. There were many moments that the whole of the theatre was so tense, and many jump scare moments.
If you’re a fan of all things spooky, tense moments, and a thrilling twist, then this is a theatre show you can’t miss!

Car Parking
The Royal & Derngate theatre has plenty of car parking options around.
St. John’s multi-story car park has 485 spaces, and Albion Place Car Park has 71 spaces, however allow yourself time for these car parks as they can become extremely busy during popular show days and peak times.
There is also more parking a five-minute walk away from the venue’s Swan Street entrance, at Commercial Street (250 spaces) and Morrisons on Victoria Parade.
If you are looking for blue badge parking, then head for Albion Place, the closest car park to the main entrance for accessible parking.
