Lodge Lake is one of my favourite green spaces and places to walk in Milton Keynes. It’s one of the smaller lakes to visit, and a walk around it generally takes 20/30 minutes – so it’s great for a leisurely stroll! I also love it because it’s quiet and peaceful here, and there are lots to see and explore.
Now that spring is showing signs of life, I recently took my 2-year-old, Ivy, to explore. The last time we visited together she was in a pram, so this time she could experience Lodge Lake a little differently.
Lodge Lake is one of the city’s balancing lakes, built by building a dam across Loughton Brook. There’s a lovely gentle walk around the lake, you can see the full route and other locations around it on The Parks Trust website. It’s also very popular for fishing, I’m always seeing people fishing here – and apparently, there are some large fish in the lake here.
As it’s a small lake with an easy walk, I took Ivy along one afternoon armed with food for the ducks, to spend a sunny afternoon. We’ve been visiting lots of places to explore and walk recently, and I love encouraging Ivy to get outside – she always seems happier, and loves to be around nature. And to be honest – so am I. I’m really enjoying finding new places to explore, and getting outside, especially in sunny weather is always nice!
As well as being very excited to feed the ducks, there were lots to see on our walk around Lodge Lake. We visited at the end of March, and there were lots of daffodils, cherry blossoms and flowers coming out to bloom!
There’s a trim trail that you can find as you walk around Lodge Lake. There are various different bits of equipment, for different skill levels. Ivy is a very confident toddler, so was happy to give all of it a good go – but I would say the majority of the equipment is for older children.
Ivy and I had a lovely afternoon walking around in the sun and exploring. The walk took us just over an hour, but we did lots of stopping and looking at things. When I’ve visited alone, or when Ivy was in the pram, a walk around would take me about 20/25 minutes. I mentioned earlier in the post, but it’s always so quiet and peaceful here so it’s a great place to visit if you want a quieter walk.
