Turns out that speaking to strangers on the internet isn’t always a terrible idea like my parents warned me about, because less than two weeks ago I married the stranger I matched with on a dating app 4 and a half years ago.
I’ve been pretty quiet updating the blog over the last few months, mostly because wedding planning is way way more intense than I thought it would be. Considering I’ve blogged about all the big occasions of my life, like having my daughter and getting engaged, it seemed like this too needed to be documented.
I’ve never been bothered about getting married, or dreamt about my wedding day since I was little. But then I met my person, I had a baby and a stepson, and that was it I wanted to be a proper family with matching surnames.
So on the 25th March 2023 at Dodmoor House, 2 years after Chris’s fantastic lockdown proposal in a shed in my parents back garden, I married him in front of our children, family and close friends.
Our wedding day was absolutely mad. As someone who is easily overwhelmed in about 90% of her normal days, I was worried I’d be an anxious mess, but the morning of the wedding I felt the calmest I’ve ever been. Minus a few small nerves just before I walked down the aisle and heard the music playing, I spent the majority of the day with a ridiculous grin on my face.
The day was everything we hoped it would be, memorable, happy, and with our guests having fun. There were of course things that didn’t go to plan, but we didn’t care, and spent majority of the day laughing.
I’ll write some more details about our wedding soon, but for now I’m finding any given opportunity to say the words ‘my husband’ and feel giddy about seeing my new married name.
