This week a new park opened up in Leighton Buzzard – Parsons Close Recreation Ground Park. This park is suitable for children of all ages and abilities, with several adaptions to give access to wheelchair users and children with special needs. Let me tell you, I have been so excited about the opening of this park since I first saw the concept drawings on Facebook. As a fully accessible and inclusive park, I think this will make such a difference for so many families!
This new park has been funded by Leighton Linslade Town Council and has been designed with all abilities and accessibility needs in mind – which I personally think is fantastic. So when it opened I knew I had to go along and explore.
The main focus of the park is a huge castle for children to explore, with an amazing high tower slide, nets, and bridges to run along and explore. The castle also has a ramp allowing wheelchair users to completely join in and access the castle, allowing them to play along and join in with friends and family. The castle climbing frame alone is fantastic, with so much to play with and explore. When we visited there were kids of all different ages playing here.
Parsons Close Recreation Ground park also has a sandpit area for younger children with a climbing frame and a slide and another small climbing frame. The park has several accessible pieces of play equipment including a new accessible roundabout for all to enjoy and various different types of swings. The previous zipline has been updated to make it more child-friendly, and there are swings suitable for all children that have been included.
Ivy found lots of musical instruments to play with around the park, and there are lots of small sensory bits to play with – there is honestly so much here! Even these have been created with accessibility needs in mind, with lots of them including braille under the text.
Parson’s Close Recreation Ground park also has a number of picnic tables in the play park, and just outside of the enclosed park there is the Café in the Park kiosk with several more tables.
I only managed to get a few photos of our adventure to Parsons Close Recreation Ground park so far, as we were having so much fun playing here, and there’s honestly so much to see and do I wouldn’t be surprised if it takes us a few visits to fully get the most out of this park. I’ll make sure to update this blog post after our next visit!

Parsons Close Recreation Ground Park can be found using the postcode LU7 1AD, or use the map below for directions. As the park is very close to the town centre, it’s best to park in one of the local car parks and walk through town – you can see on the map below where they are located.

Parson’s Close Recreation Ground is also home to a free splash park which is open daily between 10am and 5pm, as well as a large sandpit area. Parson’s Close Recreation Ground is also very close to the town centre for a wander around, and Leighton Buzzard frequently has family-friendly events.
