A few months back I was invited to visit Bills restaurant St Albans, for the launch of an exciting makeover they’d recently had. I wrote about it back in my post then, but I’m a huge fan of Bills St Albans, and I frequently visit just for the halloumi and pink lemonade, and their makeover was truly glorious. In addition to their makeover, they’ve recently added Bills Secret Garden to their restaurant, perfect if you want to enjoy some food and drinks with your friends in an outdoor secluded location. Deciding that’s exactly what I’ll do, I took along my friend Alison, so we could have a good natter and explore the new secret garden at Bills St Albans.
When we arrived at Bills we were taken through and shown the new secret garden and given a glass of Pimms so we could enjoy sitting in the sun and admire the view. The gardens have been designed to seat up to 24 people in an intimate setting, decked out with garden mirrors, fairy lights and plenty of green plants creating a relaxing atmosphere.
In addition to the new Bills secret garden, there are also some new dishes on the menu for you to try. We were offered a few samples as we enjoyed our Pimms, and some of the great choices include warm chicken, avocado and parmesan salad, seabass with avocado salsa, prawn green curry and pan-fried chicken with truffle and wild mushrooms. Later on after a couple of drinks, and a lot of nattering between Alison and I, it started to get a little chilly, but luckily Bills St Albans were on hand with these cute blankets to keep you cosy. And of course, if it does get too cold, there are plenty of cosy spaces inside. We were happy to stay outside with our blankets for a while, especially as there was such a nice chilled atmosphere in the secret garden, you really didn’t feel like you were in a back garden of a restaurant.
I really enjoyed the opening of Bills secret garden, and it was really interesting to hear how they did it up, previously it was just used as a storage space for boxes etc! And even though it was quite a small space, it didn’t feel small, even though there was a lot of us here at the opening. They’ve made great use of the space, especially with the mirrors and lighting, it looked amazing.
I really love the idea of the secret garden, it’s perfect for this permanent heatwave we’re having. I think I might have to take another trip, or two, this summer for one of those cocktails…
